When We Miss The Mark

By Joshua Bertrand
It's a unique experience to live in a religious community of close to 200 men living together...

Romans 15:14

I myself am convinced about you, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able to admonish one another.

It's a unique experience to live in a religious community of close to 200 men living together under one roof and being formed to be priests. The faith, hope, and love of a community of people focused on God's call in their life, and conforming themselves closer to Christ is amazing. However, there is also the real human factor of living with men, and not angels, the fact is people aren't perfect. One of the hardest things to hear from a fellow brother seminarian living with you is how "you have messed up" or how "you have missed the mark" and hurt somebody. However, this is what St. Paul tells us what we must do in today's scripture verse. Since we are called to be a community in the world that exemplifies faith, hope, and love; then we need to be ready and willing to admonish (to warn someone) those around us in and through love; but even more difficult to accept being admonished when we fail to be a part of that special community in the world.
