Now the people were filled with expectation
Luke 3:10-18
As we approach the midpoint of our Advent journey, aren’t we all filled with the childlike expectation of a Magical Christmas time?
The malls are overflowing with festive shoppers determined to find the perfect gifts for their loved ones, Santa’s lap is rarely empty of precious little ones telling him what they want to find under their tree, and the sights, sounds and smells of the holiday delight our senses.
What St. John the Baptist tells us in today’s Gospel though is that to really experience the Joy of the season, we must give of ourselves to others and be thankful and satisfied with what we already have. For it is only in sharing our time and treasure with those less fortunate and in gratitude that we can experience the Birth of Jesus in our hearts and souls; it is only through our kindness and compassion that we can witness Christ in others and allow His Holy Spirit to fill us with authentic Wonder and Awe!
What are my expectations of a Joyous “Christ”-mas?
Precious Lord allow my acts of charity and appreciation to guide others to Your Christmas manger of love and mercy for all.
