What do you live for?

By Deacon Drew Woodke
Today we remember Saint Paul Miki...

Galatians 2:20 (from the common of Martyrs)

"Yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me"

Who or what do you live for?

Today we remember Saint Paul Miki, a priest and martyr, and his companions who died preaching the Gospel to the Japanese people. Not only did preach to those who believed, but even up until the very moment of his death he conversed with his jailors and executioners about the love and mercy of God, and even went as far as begging God to forgive them for the ruthless actions they were committing against him and his companions.

How could he live (and die) in such freedom? It's because he lived for something greater than himself. St. Paul says, "Yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me (Gal 2:20).

The questions that each of us have to answer is, who or what do I live for?
