What Now?

By Andrew Zsebedics
In today's first reading from Acts of the Apostles...

Acts 8:26

Then the angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, "Get up and head south on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza, the desert route."

In today's first reading from Acts of the Apostles, the angel of the Lord speaks to Philip to take "the desert route." Upon taking this route, the Holy Spirit tells Philip to speak to a man, who happens to be a court official of the queen of the Ethiopians, reading from the prophet Isaiah. Then Philip asks if he understands what he is reading. And so with this, the man responds saying "How can I unless someone instructs me?" Because Philip listened to the angel, this man was baptized.

Being in the third week of Easter now, at least for me, I've come to a point where I am asking the Lord, "what now." A couple of weeks ago we were in Lent, the desert, and now Lord, You have risen°what now? From this reading today, I know one thing the Lord is calling me to do. To continue to trust and follow the Holy Spirit, even if I seem to be going through the "desert route" when life is tough and prayer is dry. If Philip hadn't taken that tough desert path, who knows if he would've ever met that man who was baptized. Holy Spirit, help us to trust You.
