We Rejoice

By Deacon Drew Woodke
This line is so familiar for those of us to pray the liturgy of the hours...

Lk 1:67

"Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; for he has come to his people and set them free"

This line is so familiar for those of us to pray the liturgy of the hours on a regular basis. As a Deacon, I pray this prayer every morning in the context of morning prayer. "Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; for he has come to his people and set them free" (Lk 1:67). During the Christmas season, it's so easy to get caught up with Santa Claus, reindeer, and snow° Well maybe not snow. And if we do remember the reason for Christmas, we think of the baby Jesus in a manger (which is fine). But why did Jesus come? To set his people free. To release them from captivity.

Jesus is the reason for the season. And we rejoice because we have been saved from our sin. Not just once 2000 years ago, but each and every day. We rejoice because Jesus is constantly seeking our heart. Ready to set us from our sins over and over again. Today in the midst of last minute shopping, and final preparations for parties and meal Take time to really thank Jesus from the bottom of your heart for what he has done for you.

Merry Christmas!
