Luke 8:21
He said to them in reply, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it."
Family is one of, if not, the greatest relations a person can have with someone. Thus if Jesus calls those who "hear the word of God and act on it" then one of the few things that we have to do is love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:37,39) This is also what the theological virtue of Charity is. (more info in CCC 1822)
