Turn Up the Volume

By Connor Penn
Could you imagine a book containing the lyrics of Spirit FM's most popular songs?...

Psalm 69:30

"I will praise the name of God in song."

The vast majority of psalms contained in the Bible are actually song lyrics; in fact, some of the psalms even begin with musical instructions. Could you imagine a book containing the lyrics of Spirit FM's most popular songs? That's basically what the psalms are!

Yet in this particular psalm (psalm 69), the author has been crying out to God in great anguish and distress for the first 29 verses. Many believe that this author suffered from a physical illness since he or she talks about being "miserable and in pain;" But, in the midst of all of this, the writer of these song lyrics still wants to praise God's name as we hear in verse 31.

In my own life, I have times when I'm not "in the mood" to turn to the uplifting and wholesome music that Spirit FM plays. In the midst of a particular difficulty, sometimes I don't want to praise the name of God in song. But these are precisely the moments, more than ever, that I must seek to do just that: turn up the volume on the "psalms" of our own day and praise the name of God in song.
