Trust in the Lord

By Mark DeSio
Two blind men came to Jesus begging for the sense of sight...

"Let it be done for you according to your faith." - Matthew 9:29

Two blind men came to Jesus begging for the sense of sight. "Do you believe that I can do this?" Jesus asked. "Yes, Lord," they replied. He touched their eyes and said, "Let it be done for you according to your faith." Then, their eyes were opened and they spread news of Him.

Most of us have been able to see since birth, so it may be difficult for us to relate to the blind men who desired to see. However, we all have desires. And as Catholic Christians, we should have a growing desire for holiness deep within us. Saint Thérèse of Lisieux had great desires for holiness. However, she compared herself to the saints, saying they were like great eagles flying up to the heavens while she was just a little bird who couldn't fly. Thérèse didn't give up there. Like the blind men, she brought her desires to Jesus and believed He could fulfill her. Then, the Lord showed her the little way of trust and confidence in His mercy. It's as if He said to her, "Let it be done for you according to your trust." We know she trusted and her desires became a reality.

Do I desire holiness? Do I believe God wants to make me a great saint?

Merciful Father, enkindle within us the desire to be holy and in Your merciful love, make us into great saints.
