True Faith

By Stephen Eschenfelder
In today's readings we see the true power of prayer as two barren women conceive...

Luke 1: 13

But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John."

In today's readings we see the true power of prayer as two barren women conceive. When I was reflecting on the readings for today I thought of my own faith and prayer life and just how difficult it can be to truly believe in the promises of the Lord. When I was involved in youth ministry I had the responsibility of leading and directing teens on retreats and outings. Often I would ask for help setting things up and I knew which ones could carry out the task well and which ones couldn't or wouldn't. How many times have I treated God like those I don't trust with work because I don't have true faith? In this time of advent let us remember that the lord delivers and we can either have faith and do what is asked or we can give in to ignorant doubt.
