Troubling Times

By John Morris
We often place our wants and desires over...

John 14:1

Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.

You may have heard the phrase, "stress kills." Stress can literally weaken the body. Emotionally and spiritually it has the potential to wreck a soul. We worry about so many things and it seems like there's never enough time for anything that you need to do. We often put our wants over our needs. I want to go to the beach, but you NEED to go to church. We compromise our values for things of the world and our priorities get out of whack. Our egos get in the way that we can overcome challenges and we end up digging a deeper hole. Sometimes health issues or things out of our control hit us out of the blue and we forget where we should look for help.

In today's reading, the apostles were struggling with the reality that their friend, their teacher, their shepherd, had been killed and had come back. But like little children, they seem to have forgotten what Jesus taught them. He gave them the road map but they still forgot the way. He told them not to worry…that if they had faith in God then they'd be ok. Jesus told them that He is the way, the truth and the life; that he is the way to the Father. When times get you down, always remember that you have a friend in Jesus. Jesus can be found in the quietness of life if you just pause and listen to what he tells you. Jesus can be found in a counseling pastor, in front of the tabernacle or at the foot of the cross. Run to him and never forget that He is with you always, even until the end of time.
