Encourage yourselves daily while it is still "today," so that none of you may grow hardened by the deceit of sin.
Despite me extolling the virtues of taking care of business now, I'm typically a procrastinator. I get on my kids about making sure to address the present and to face issues head on instead of putting them off. Yet sometimes I let little things go, and soon they can become big things. Such is the case for sin and for reconciliation. We all know that a little sin may not be a big deal. A little lie today can grow into a big lie tomorrow. Lies and deceit are like a cancer. They can start small and grow into something out of control. It can become habitual and soon you're drowning in fabrications. You can't keep one story straight and you seem to lose control. Three things can happen. One, you keep lying and are crushed by the stress. Two, you become so used to it, it becomes numb and your life soon has no real meaning. Three, you come to grips with your errors and admit your failures. When you admit it to someone, it may hurt at first but in most cases, things turn out for the best. When you confess your sin to Christ, a great burden is lifted, and you become a new person. With reconciliation to a priest, it can be difficult to walk into the confessional. But after you empty the weight of the sins, it's truly a life changing event. So take the words from today's reading to heart, and take care of making things right with your friends, family and God today, so that tomorrow will be a better day.
