Tired of Complacency

By John Morris
If that's the way you've always done it, it's time to change....

Haggi 1:3-4

Then this word of the LORD came through Haggai, the prophet:  Is it time for you to dwell in your own paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?

Complacency can be a bad thing.  Its ok to take a break or time off away from work or even take a moment or two of pause in your day just to rest and pray or meditate.  But over an extended period we can become complacent, or just used to things for various reasons.  We all can be guilty of it.  I know I can be.  Phrases like, "That's the way we've always done it," "it's not going to matter anyway," "the bosses aren't going to go for that so I'm not even asking."  I've been guilty of all of these at some point.  We have to be aware when we step into this line of thinking that nothing will change if we don't affect change.  Taking a job, school work or even hurricane preparedness for granted or just being complacent in these areas can be costly.

The Lord approached Haggi with the message today to the people of Israel telling them not to be complacent.  They got lazy in their worship, the church was in ruin and people were more comfortable in their own homes and building up their treasures, than they were to build up the church.  Not just the church sanctuary, but the people, the body of the church.  We have to have zeal in building up the body of Christ, the Church.  If we fall asleep in our complacency, we may not know the hour or day when God will come for us.  Let's be diligent today in our evangelization efforts to build up the church and our faith.
