Time for a Change?

By Fr. Lou Turcotte
As a young adult, I was notorious for constantly changing my hairstyle...

"Behold, I make all things new."

Revelation 21:5

As a young adult, I was notorious for constantly changing my hairstyle. Old photos will remind me of my more questionable choices: gelled spikes, mullet, faux-hawk, buzzcut…it wasn’t pretty. Every now and then I still get the desire to “mix things up,” or to start something new. Fortunately, instead of shaving my head, nowadays I’ll do something more productive: get some spring cleaning done, reach out to an old friend, or maybe plan an exciting trip on my day off.  Maybe you’ve had a similar “stuck in a rut” feeling like this - when your job, your hobbies, or your prayer life seem a little stale. Perhaps, five weeks in, you are getting a little tired of the Easter season? If so, today God offers some good news: “Behold, I make all things new.” In the readings today, God is full of surprises - bringing salvation to new peoples, giving a new commandment - He is constantly seeking to bring new life into our tired hearts. And notice that God doesn’t say “I made all things new,” or “I will make all things new.” He speaks to us now, in this present moment. So allow Him to refresh your heart, today!

How does Jesus wish to breath new life into your heart?

Lord God, help me to live the Resurrection today - make all things new in me!

Fr. Lou Turcotte grew up in Clearwater, attending Light of Christ Catholic Church with his parents and two sisters. He is an alumnus of St. Cecelia Interparochial School, Clearwater High, and the University of Florida, where he graduated with a degree in Marketing. Inspired by many priestly role models, he felt the LORD pulling him to discern the priesthood, and after an exciting, challenging, and transformative 7 years of seminary education, he was ordained a priest in 2018. After serving at St. Timothy in Lutz for two years, he now enjoys the beautiful waters of St. Raphael in St. Petersburg. His passions include national parks, aquariums, Chick-fil-A, Liverpool Football Club, and encountering Jesus alongside the faithful here in the Diocese of St. Petersburg.
