The accuser has been cast out

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
It was a paradigm shift for me. My way of engaging in the spiritual shifted once it finally clicked that the Holy Spirit never speaks through accusation...

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have salvation and power come, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed. For the accuser* of our brothers is cast out, who accuses them before our God day and night. They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter them from death.                              Revelation 12:10-11

It was a paradigm shift for me. My way of engaging in the spiritual shifted once it finally clicked that the Holy Spirit never speaks through accusation. The accuser has been cast out. The archangels which we celebrate today engaged humanity with a tone of invitation, mercy, and over-abundant love—not accusation. What a different tone that is from the accusers. How often does the voice of accusation resonate within our culture, our media, our conversations with others, and those inner conversations? If the accuser has truly been cast out of heaven, may we unite ourselves with that Kingdom by casting the accuser from ourselves.

What does the voice of truth sound like in my heart?

Holy Spirit, help me to be attentive to your voice.
