The Little Ones

By John Morris
We try to turn a quick buck on lotteries, games and...

Matthew 11:25

Jesus said, "I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones."

Jesus loved the innocent ones, the little ones, the least ones.  He had compassion for those who were underserved, forgotten, downtrodden, poor, sick, lonely.  Jesus loved the prodigal son, the prostitute, the lame, the blind.  Maybe he loved children because of the Holy Innocents, those young children killed by Herod only because they were the same as a Jesus, who was the target of Herod.  Maybe he knew that children were not yet tainted by the world, that their minds and hearts were pure.

In today's hurried world, we get caught up in the drive for success. We are consumers of worldly goods, sporting events, turn a quick buck on lotteries and gaming, and investing in our future with as much money as we can.  But what do we do spiritually?  We are so driven that we have pushed the important things aside.  We don't have time for family dinner anymore, we miss church to catch the football game or the dance recital, or when we are together, everyone is on their phone so no one talks except by text.  We need to turn back to the basics:  talk to each other, go back to church as a family, eat together, pray together, share with each other the successes and the struggles of our day.  We should clear our minds so that our hearts can be pure again.  God, I pray today that I can let go of things and be a little one again, called to your heart.  I pray that I'll have the patience to listen for your revealing truth.
