The Jesus Question

 Luke 9:18-20

Once when Jesus was praying in solitude, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say that I am?" They said in reply, "John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, 'One of the ancient prophets has arisen.'" Then he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter said in reply, "The Messiah of God."

In today's Gospel we have what Matthew Kelly likes to call "The Jesus Question." Who is Jesus of Nazareth? All of us have to confront this question at some point in our life, because if Jesus is who he says he is, everything changes. Some people try to reduce Jesus to just a nice guy, some deny his divinity, and unfortunately, many people see him as irrelevant in their daily life. In Sacred Scripture we see that many of the people of Jesus' time treated him no differently. But who do YOU say that Jesus is? As disciples of Jesus Christ, let us not be afraid to echo the words of Saint Peter, and make the Lord of our hearts known to the ends of the earth. God bless you all.
