The Dishonest Steward

"The master commended the dishonest steward"

Lk 16:8

Did we read it right? "The master commended the dishonest steward." A steward in Jesus' time was a financial manager for a rich person.  It was taken for granted that the steward wrote the bills that included his fees (that's how he could forgive the "50 measures of oil or 20 of wheat”.) So the master is commending not dishonesty, but the quick thinking of the guy to protect himself.

As we grow in faith we come to know it's not about us--it's about the relationship we have with God.  Paul knew this--we could adopt his wisdom:  I will never speak of anything except what Jesus does W.I.T.* us.

*With us, In us, & working Through us

As Ps. 98 says:  Sing to the Lord a new song!

As we go day after day, our faith must grow--our song always be new.  Our faith is not about rules/rites, but relationship with God, & service that builds the Kingdom.  Let us live the Gospel courageously ("use words when necessary" as Pope Francis says) & invite others to join us.

Are you more about keeping the rules or building a relationship with God? How can you build a better relationship with God?  What will you do?

Faithful God, be ever my strength.  Help me live the Gospel & grow knowing you are W.I.T.* me.
