“I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked man, says the Lord, but rather in his conversion that he may live.”
Ezekiel 33:11 (Gospel Acclamation)
Is it possible to see eye to eye with every person you encounter? No, I think it’s absurd to believe this. We are too different from one another: culturally, personal life experiences, and even religious or political beliefs. These differences, although they keep us from seeing eye to eye with others, should never deter us from loving or wanting the best for them. Ezekiel tells us, “I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked man, but rather in his conversion that he may live.” This is a tall order. We are so used to condemning those who are different, that we fail to see them for who they are.
Whether they are wicked, professional sinners, or people we may never see eye to eye with, we should always want the best for them. This is what it means to love like God. To see the poor, the imprisoned, the forgotten, the rich, or the politicians, and to love them. You and I should never take pleasure in seeing another person suffer, no matter what they have done. Look past the differences, allow yourself to love like God, and hope in their conversion. That they may come to know God and live!
Is there someone in your life who you do not see eye to eye with? If so, pray for them, for their conversion, in order that they might live.
Almighty ever-living God, I pray for those who are imprisoned, who have caused hurt, or participate in evil acts, that they may find Life in you and live.
