John 3:20-21
For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.
Being afraid of the dark is a pretty common fear among children. The main worry being that bad things may be hiding in the dark. Sometimes, kids are so frightened of what they imagine is lurking there that they're afraid of getting up and braving the darkness temporarily to turn on the light, even if they know that flipping that switch will instantly obliterate the shadows surrounding them and their fear with them. A lot of times we do the same thing in our spiritual lives. We know there may be some sin hiding in the dark corners of our hearts that we're afraid to shine a light on because it's just easier to ignore it than face the hard truth that it needs to be dealt with. We may even know that shining that light of honesty on the darkness will ultimately reconcile us to God and grant us peace. Take some time today to shine the light of God's love on those parts of your heart you may be keeping hidden in the darkness. You may be surprised at how liberating it is.
