Matthew 7:21
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.
"Talk is cheap," and, "Actions are louder than words," are two phrases with which you're probably familiar. It can be also said that good words backed up by good deeds show the true character of a person. In the movie, "Jerry McGuire" there's a scene where the sports agent, Jerry (played by Tom Cruise), is asked to trust a potential client, based on a handshake and the client's word. The client's father proclaims, "Jerry, my word is stronger than oak." A few scenes later, the promise is broken, and Jerry is left hanging.
Has that ever happened to you? Have you ever had someone promise you something and then let you down? It made you feel sick, betrayed and disappointed. Turn the tables now. Maybe you've been on the other side, where you promised something, but had to go the other way. We promise Jesus a lot of things. "I promise I'll never do that again." "God if you get me out of this predicament, I promise I won't do that again." Familiar words for many of us for sure. When we go to confession, we say one thing, promise not to do the sin again, but sometimes fall back. We go back on our word. Pray today for strength and courage to stay strong in the face of pressures, to do what you say. .
