Stand Strong in Your Faith

By Nicholas Gunn
I often find myself thinking about how history will perceive the current times that we live in...

"Anyone who is so "progressive" as not to remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God; whoever remains in the teaching has the Father and the Son." - 2 John 1:9

I often find myself thinking about how history will perceive the current times that we live in. Regardless of your position on the issues that have been plaguing our nation, it can be agreed that we are undergoing a social phenomenon. There are people taking to the streets across the nation and hospitals have been at capacity for the first time, I believe, in my 23 years alive. Things are changing and as Catholics we may be tempted to move with the tide because it is much easier to submit than it is to stand strong.

However, in today's first reading we are given a much-needed reminder that we must abide in the teachings of Jesus Christ. This standing firm in the faith will bring conflict and controversy to true followers; just as it did to the Christians in the early Church. Face this controversy with courage and know that Jesus has the words of everlasting life. I imagine that we have not seen the last of the turmoil that will take place in our lifetimes. Let us stand, rooted in the knowledge that Jesus is Lord, as we face the tides as a Church.

What can I do to deepen my faith in the midst of these turbulent times?

Lord, grant your servants a steadfast heart and the grace to stand strong amongst the tide.
