Spreading the Gospel

So, you have a friend and they are asking you questions about Christianity. With every query your heart jumps a little bit, thinking that they may be well on their way...

Matthew 16:16-17

Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father."

So, you have a friend and they are asking you questions about Christianity. With every query your heart jumps a little bit, thinking that they may be well on their way to a relationship with Christ. After a while, they stop asking questions and you wonder what happened. "Did I do something wrong?", you may think to yourself, "Were my answers not good enough?". You may question your example; "Did I conduct myself lovingly during our discussions?". Many of us have experienced a situation similar to what I've described at some point in our lives. At those times, I think it's important for us to remember the words of Jesus to St. Peter in verse 17. As compelling as logical arguments, loving explanations, and holy examples can be, ultimately conversion is a work of the Holy Spirit. We shouldn't be overly focused on how successful we are in 'bringing' others to Christ. Faithfulness in sharing the Gospel is what God really wants from us.
