Luke 7:31
"Then to what shall I compare the people of this generation? What are they like?
The perfect game. The perfect season. The perfect delivery. The perfect pitch.
If there would have ever been one to have a perfect record or perfect recruitment success rate or perfect scores in the opinion polls one would certainly think that it would have been the Son of God. However we know that this simply wasn't the case. Spoiler alert--Jesus gets crucified. But today's Gospel reveals that it wasn't just at the end of Jesus' life that He dealt with misunderstanding or rejection. It accompanied His entire ministry, His entire life. The true way that Jesus cared about perfection was to perfectly fulfill His Father's will.
So often we can become disheartened by how poorly our efforts to evangelize, to preach, to proclaim the Gospel are received by those whom we love and care about most. Yet even in that we are aligned with the lived experience of the Son of God. Our responsibility isn't the response we receive. Our responsibility is to be courageously faithful to the Father.
