Spend time with Him

By Deacon Drew Woodke
For the past few months a lot of us have had more free time...

John 14:21

Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me.

For the past few months a lot of us have had more free time. I'm aware that some people have been much busier during these times, especially our first responders, but for the rest of us, at least the sense I'm getting from social media, seems to suggest that most people are looking for new ways to fill their time. We have had time to binge watch Tiger King, or to start a new beach body fitness program. And whether our schedules have been busy or not, we always find time to do what is most important to us. But how many of us have taken more time for prayer?

In today's Gospel Jesus says, "Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me." And its true. When we love someone, we do things for them, but we also spend time with them. If we truly love God, not only should be follow and observe his commandments, but we should spend time with Him. That's what love is about. If you haven't done this, now isn't the time to beat yourself. God is simply waiting to be with you. Today ask yourself if your relationship with God is important, and can you make more time for Him?
