While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them, "This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah.
Sometimes I wonder what would be a sign big enough to prove to my fellow millennials the infinite love that God has for them. Every article I read on the newest statistics shows the dip in numbers for millennials who are religious, and that leads me to think that maybe I can do something to change it. I wonder what could be the next "thing" I could do? However, in this drive to be a sign for this generation am I becoming the very problem that Jesus is addressing in this verse? Am I the one who is constantly seeking a sign to validate God's. I need to constantly remind myself the ultimate sign has been given 2,000 years ago in the Roman occupied land of Judea when Jesus was risen from the dead. That witness has been handed down to me today, and its power today is just as strong as it was on that first Easter Sunday when Mary Magdalene was the first to see the risen Lord. That sign of Jonah who spent three days in the stomach of a whale was foreshadowing of the Lord's ultimate sign the Resurrection. Nothing that I initiate on my own can be more perfect than that empty tomb.
