Share the Encounter

By Zachary Brasseur
St. Luke felt that way about Jesus to the point of writing not one, but two books about...

Psalm 145:12

Your friends make known O LORD, the glorious splendor of your kingdom.

Do you have a friend that you just can't stop talking about? I don't mean in an obsessive way, that makes people go "Hey pal, get a hobby." What I mean is, that one friend who during the day pops into your head and you just have to tell someone about a funny joke your friend always tells or that great trip you went on together. This is a friend who you love and admire and you want everyone else to love and admire him, because that's just how great he is.

St. Luke, who's feast we celebrate today, felt that way about Jesus to the point of writing not one, but two books about him and everything that happened because of him. Even though Luke didn't know and interact with Jesus in the way the Twelve Apostles did, he came to know him because the apostles shared their love of him with Luke and everyone they met. This is what being Catholic is all about. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said that the life of a Christian isn't an ethical ideal or a philosophy, but an encounter with the living person who is Jesus Christ. And each of us are called to share that encounter with the world.
