1 Samuel 3:9
So he said to Samuel, "Go to sleep, and if you are called, reply, 'Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'
Set apart
There's a hymn we often hear in church connected to this reading. Here I am Lord, is it I Lord? I have heard you calling in the night... It's a hymn that has touched many hearts and stirred many vocations but it comes from this scene today from 1 Samuel. It comes from a moment in which Samuel is set apart from Eli. Often times when the Lord calls, it leads us to depend in a new and perhaps radical way upon his Grace. Today may we have the courage to respond the Lord's call and trust that He will provide even as His call sets us apart.
