Seeking Joy

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
A few days ago, I couldn't find my tape measure for anything...

Acts 17:26-27

He made from one the whole human race to dwell on the entire surface of the earth, and he fixed the ordered seasons and the boundaries of their regions,

so that people might seek God, even perhaps grope for him and find him, though indeed he is not far from any one of us.

A few days ago, I couldn't find my tape measure for anything... and I've got a few of them. I searched everywhere and in my frustration moved onto something else. A little later I returned to where I had been working only to find my tape measure staring back at me. How often we search and seek and go after happiness only to become frustrated. Yet, what we are looking for—the joy and peace and hope and happiness of this life is always near to us. May we heed the words of St. Paul to the Athenians in recognizing that we were made to seek after God—that our pursuits of happiness, meaning and love are all pursuits of Him—and that God has chosen to draw near to us.
