Remember a moment

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
I sometimes joke that when a tear from my eyes reaches my beard, it turns one of my whiskers gray...

Deuteronomy 4:9

"However, take care and be earnestly on your guard

not to forget the things which your own eyes have seen,

nor let them slip from your memory as long as you live,

but teach them to your children and to your children's children."

I sometimes joke that when a tear from my eyes reaches my beard, it turns one of my whiskers gray. If that were the case however, the final scenes from the movie Coco would leave me looking like Papa Noel! As the song "remember me" is sung by Coco to his grandmother, a character of the film (spoiler alert) receives life again within the family. Memory brings moments of our history into the present and makes them alive again. Today, Deuteronomy calls upon the whole people of God to "not forget the things your eyes have seen" and to "make them known to your children and to your children's children." In this period of Lent, are we making time to remember the fidelity of our God or are we focused on a "Papa-God to-do list." Today, let's set apart time to remember a moment of grace in our lives and courageously share that story with our children, friends or whomever God places in our lives.
