Remember

By Sr. Mary David Hydro
It is the first week of Ordinary time...

"What are we that You keep us in mind, remember and care for us?" - Heb. 2:6

It is the first week of Ordinary time, yet with God, no time is ordinary. In today's liturgy we are invited to remember.

In addressing God, Psalm 8 asks, "What are we that You are mindful of us?" Heb. 2:5-12 had asked God, "What are we that You keep us in mind, remember and care for us?" God remembers us; we need to remember God and all He has done for us: the personal blessings of life, faith, family, friends and the communal blessings, the greatest being Jesus, the Son of God, who came and gave His life for us. We can be grateful for the Gospel, the Church, saints who've gone before us, the good people who serve the faith community and more.

During the Eucharist we remember all God has done for us in Christ. In our grateful remembering, Jesus is made present. There the bond of intimacy with Jesus and His kin--all others, is deepened.

Let us remember---God never forgets us and if we remember the Kingdom comes.

Question to ponder: How am I about remembering all the good God has done for me?

Challenge: Try making a Gratitude List for a week or more --it will help you focus on the good and be more aware of God.

Loving God, may remembering Your faithful love drive away every evil spirit and lead us to proclaim the Gospel with our lives. Amen.
