"You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come." Luke 12:40
Many of us might spend our entire lives trying to get to the top of the corporate ladder. Society pushes us to be the best, the richest, the most famous. Others just want to be comfortable and have some of the nicer things in life. Social status is most important for some, power for others. But at the end of our lives, Jesus tells us that God will not care about any of this. In today's gospel, we find Jesus reminding his disciples to be prepared for the son of Man coming to greet them. He's telling them, that they cannot predict when God will come and their life on earth will end. The disciples know this: they want to go to Heaven, and they want to do whatever it takes to get there. Jesus is reminding them, and us, that it could happen at any time, so we need to get our house in order. That is get our spiritual lives in order. Instead of spending our entire lives working 15 hours a day to be the best , while ignoring things that are most important like family, faith, and our fellow man, we need to pause and do a hard review of lives. Before we know it, our time is up and what will we have to show for it? Will God care that we had the biggest house or were most popular in our community? No. Will he care if you spend your life in prayer, and service to your fellow man? Maybe. Jesus is telling us to be prepared. You can make a change in your life beginning this weekend by going to church.

Am I truly prepared to die should my life end today?
Lord Jesus, help me to use the remainder of my life to grow in holiness and love for you and my neighbors.
