PEACE I LEAVE

By John Morris
Peace is not a victory sign at Mass, but...

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.   John 14:27

Jesus knows that the disciples will be witness to his capture, persecution, trial and crucifixion. They have already witnessed miracles of healing and feeding. This is a lot for anyone to take in; for most, it's really unbelievable and unnatural. We know that it is supernatural. Jesus reassures them by giving them peace. He's saying in a sense, "relax, don't worry, I have this all under control. This is God's will and what is going to happen will probably trouble you, but really, don't worry. And I'm sending the Spirit to remind you that everything will make sense in the end." Much of his ministry was teaching his followers that all things are possible with God.

It's difficult sometimes to discern if it's God's will or my own, to act. But with prayer and proper discernment, we will make the decisions in our life that God wants us to make.

Question for Reflection

How can I better see and hear what God is calling me to do?

Jesus, give me the courage to proclaim you to all as Lord of all and your will be done, not mine.
