Our Lady of Sorrows

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
I remember the sacrifices made by my parents...

In the days when he was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death,* and he was heard because of his reverence.     Hebrews 5:7-10

I remember the sacrifices made by my parents. I've grown up witnessing the selflessness of my grandmother as she's cared for my handicapped uncle. The work, sweat, and camaraderie of neighbors when a tree came down formed my response to others' needs. We all learn much from the upbringing we received. If this is the case for you and me, then it holds true that it is the same for our Savior. His perseverance, willingness to sacrifice, and ultimate self-generosity were at the very least influenced by the example of His mother. In this year in which we have all experienced great sorrow, may we turn to her as Jesus did and learn from her example.

How would Mary respond to the suffering of today?

Jesus, help me to learn from the example of your mother.
