Then let us celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found.' Luke 15:24
Today we hear the story of the "Prodigal Son," or as some call it, the "Forgiving Father." Throughout this beautiful story is the undying love and affection of the love of the father to his wayward son. One theme is the incredible mercy and love that the father showed his son. That's the same with God in our lives. I am often like the sinful son. I have been given everything from God yet I often squander it. Many of us take advantage of others, some consciously and others without even realizing it. We turn away from our father by always asking and taking, and never giving thanks, or only running to him when times get tough. When we are at our lowest, then we think, "wait, I'll go to God for help." God knows that we are sinful. Our pride gets in the way of forgiving others and asking for forgiveness for ourselves. Yet God is so merciful that he gave us his son to pay for the sins of the past and of now. All we have to do is love him, love others and accept Jesus as our Lord and savior.
Question for Reflection
Am I forgiving of others as God is as forgiving of me?
God, give me the courage to be forgiving of others so that I may be a greater witness for you!
