Not about the analytics

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
I have a tendency to evaluate myself based off the analytics I can immediately see...

God has overlooked the times of ignorance, but now he demands that all people everywhere repent because he has established a day on which he will ‘judge the world with justice’ through a man he has appointed, and he has provided confirmation for all by raising him from the dead.” When they heard about resurrection of the dead, some began to scoff, but others said, “We should like to hear you on this some other time.”

Acts 17:32-33

I have a tendency to evaluate myself based off the analytics I can immediately see. For instance, when I speak of vocations or discipleship at an event, I am interested to see how many vocational prospects or potential seminarians are generated. I think many of us operate this way when it comes to evangelizing or witnessing the faith. We get caught up in evaluating our efforts or our fruitfulness by the immediate feedback. Thankfully though, evangelizing and witnessing to Christ or speaking about vocations isn’t about the analytics. It’s about our fidelity to God and allowing God to work though that. That’s why it’s reassuring for me to read this account of St. Paul’s mission in Athens. Even Paul didn’t catch ‘em all.

Do I witness to the faith with a trust that God is working through me?

Jesus, help me to trust your work through my life.
