Nasty Ear Wax

By Andrew Zsebedics
Do we let our hears be touched?

"He put his finger into the man's ears..." - Mark 7:33

Do we let our hears be touched? Wait, what? That's right. I asked if we allow our hears to be touched? Now, it is kind of weird how in today's Gospel reading, Jesus puts his fingers into this deaf man's ears. I don't know about you, but I know for certain that I would not want someone putting their fingers in my gross ears, but I find this action strangely beautiful knowing that this deaf man was brought to Jesus by people who begged for him to be healed. There are two things to take away from this. Firstly, the people who begged for this man's healing reminds me of what true friendship is, that a true friend will lead you to Christ. Secondly, how vulnerable this deaf man is with Jesus – so vulnerable in fact, that he allows Jesus to put His fingers into his ears and becomes healed.

What is it in our lives that prevents us from hearing the Lord? Is it the group of friends that I am surrounded by? Or, are my own fingers stuck in my ears not allowing Jesus to work in me? Jesus is willing to get his fingers covered in disgusting ear wax for you. Will you let him?

Are the friends that I surround myself with leading me to Christ? Am I vulnerable with Jesus or am I putting my own fingers in my ears, preventing me to be healed by Him?

Lord, help me to become more vulnerable with You so that I may listen and be more attentive to Your will in my life.
