Moments of Fear

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
I used to hate feeling inadequate and was scared of moments that...

Acts 3:3-7

When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked for alms.

But Peter looked intently at him, as did John, and said, "Look at us."

He paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them.

Peter said, "I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, [rise and] walk."

Then Peter took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles grew strong.

I used to hate feeling inadequate and was scared of moments that made me feel like I had nothing to offer. Truth be told though, as a priest I have had many such moments. Perhaps it was a moment of grief, tragedy or a moment beyond my understanding. However, I'm gradually learning that those moments are amazing ones. Those are the moments where I can step out of the way and offer what I have, a relationship with Jesus Christ. Moments of fear, anxiety or inadequacy are moments where our Faith becomes real and Christ becomes present. I pray that you and I learn how to lean into those powerful moments and like St. Peter, offer Jesus.
