“Be careful to observe [his statutes],
that you may grow and prosper the more,
in keeping with the promise of the LORD, the God of your fathers,
to give you a land flowing with milk and honey.”
Deuteronomy 6:3
Milk and Honey feels like the biblical equivalent to Halloween treats. I wait all year for Halloween candy (and Christmas cookies, but I’m trying to be patient,) and likewise we wait all our lives to finally get to our destination of the land flowing with milk and honey.
Personally, I have a really poor sense of direction and have to use my map app to get almost anywhere. If I know that I can’t make it from my house to Tropicana Field without directions, what makes me think I could get to the land flowing with milk and honey without directions?
Thankfully, the Lord has never left us without directions. He guided the Israelites through the desert (pre phone apps, of course.) And even now, he gives us his word and his commandments so that we have direction. Someone told me once that His commandments are not a list of “no’s,” but a way to say “yes” to greater things. He tells us how to go in the right direction!

Sweet friend Jesus, thank you for giving me directions! Help me to avoid any detours, and continue on the path to the land flowing with milk and honey.
