Mercy Enduring Forever

By Andrew Zsebedics
At one of my baseball games as a kid, I remember watching my friend warm-up to bat...

God is able to make every grace abundant for you. 2 Corinthians 9:8

At one of my baseball games as a kid, I remember watching my friend warm up to bat. After watching him, I was motivated to warm up like him too. I grabbed my bat, moved a little bit behind him, and practiced my swings. Thirty seconds go by and I'm just swinging my bat when suddenly "BAM!". I quickly turn around and there I see my friend with a black eye. I felt so terrible when I saw my friend hurt but after he realized what happened, he came up to me and forgave me. We all sin, and when we do we hurt the Lord's heart. Yet, God's mercy has no limit – it is infinite. No sin is too big for his mercy and He never tires of extending his mercy, for "his mercy endures forever." This understanding of God's mercy demands a response on our part though. A response where we must turn to the Lord, seek conversion, and ask for his gift of mercy, not just once, but daily. When we hit the Lord with our "bats" (aka sin), He offers forgiveness and compassion because he loves us so tenderly; however, will you and I accept his offer?

Will I accept this offer of forgiveness that God gifts me?

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
