"It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes."
Psalm 119:71
I find it interesting that Sacred Scripture has verses such as, “It is good for me that I have been afflicted,” and “consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials.” Perhaps I find them interesting because I forget that the cross, following Jesus, is not a walk in the park, but a walk that requires me to live and learn from the joys and struggles of life, especially in my relationships.
Like any relationship, there will be times that “are good and bountiful,” but also burdensome and difficult. I have learned that this is just a part of life, especially a life with Christ. But it would be a shame if I had not learned anything from the difficult times. These undesired times refine us to be the men and women God is calling us to be.

Heavenly Father, I trust that You are with me, please help me to see Your guiding hand in all that I do!

Caleb Malec is in his sophomore year at St. Joseph Seminary College in Louisiana. St. Stephen's in Riverview is where he truly began to actively participate in a life with Christ. He loves to have fun with his family and friends, whether this was playing sports or going on adventures. Caleb was a missionary for two years, where the Lord stretched, pulled, strengthen, and softened his heart through the sacraments and prayer!
