Looking for Truth

By Deacon Drew Woodke
If there is one thing I know for certain, it’s that there is a lot of uncertainty in our world...

“Jesus said to him in reply, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man replied to him, “Master, I want to see.” Jesus told him, “Go your way; your faith has saved you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way”

Mark 10:51-52

If there is one thing I know for certain, it’s that there is a lot of uncertainty in our world. Conflicting messages are shared each day and given to us as fact so much so that at times it can become difficult to decipher where the truth really lies. With so much information at our fingertips, it can be exhausting to keep up. Searching for truth in society can make you feel like the blind man in today’s passage, waiting for truth to be revealed.  In today’s Gospel we hear about Bartimaeus, a man born blind who was an outcast in society and resorted to begging on the street. Yet when Jesus walks by, he is able to break through all the other noises that compete for his hearing and he calls out to Jesus. “Jesus said to him in reply, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man replied to him, “Master, I want to see.” Jesus told him, “Go your way; your faith has saved you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way” (Mk 10:51-52).   In a time when truth is hard to find, let us have the courage of the blind man to place our trust in Jesus alone.

What distracts you from hearing the Word of God in your life?

Heavenly Father, heal my spiritual blindness and allow me to see your truth.
