Look Within

By Spencer Grant
I'm sure every parent reading this can verify that whenever their kids are in trouble...

"Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?" - Matthew 7:1-5

I'm sure every parent reading this can verify that whenever their kids are in trouble, it's never completely their fault. I may or may not be speaking of my own childhood as well. Yet many, if not most of us, still maintain this bad habit, myself included. How often do we find ourselves looking out for the reasons of our unhappiness or hurt, and how little do we look within? It is so tempting to cast blame on others for the problems we experience. It's so easy to exclude ourselves from any fault or harm done. Jesus is inviting us to be free of this, to be free of scapegoating and slandering our neighbors. With His light, we are given the power (and the courage) to look within ourselves for any fault. Even if we are wronged by someone else, it is up to us how we respond.

How can I look to my own sins before I condemn others for theirs?

Lord Jesus, You are the only high judge; teach me the humility to accept this and to not judge my neighbor.
