Let it Shine!

By Spencer Grant
We all have heard the song "This Little Light of Mine..."

"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father."

Luke 8:16-18

We all have heard the song "This Little Light of Mine." From a secular point of view, this song could just mean we sing about expressing the uniqueness that lies in all of us. This, however, is not the True Light that all baptized Christians carry. Christ says, "I am the Light of the World." The light that we all carry is the light of Christ, and it is up to us to display this light to help dispel the darkness of the world around us. In reflecting on this gospel, it's easy, I think, to stop there. But Christ is warning us about what will happen if we keep this light hidden. The Light will come anyways at the end of time and to those who carry this light, more will be given. To those who do not carry this light, they will see the falseness of their worldly possessions in the true Light of Christ and come to see that in truth they have nothing without him. So, it is up to us who have received this light already to let it shine into the darkness of the world and maybe ignite the hearts of others.

In what ways can I spread the light of Christ to others in my life?

Lord Jesus, let your light shine so brilliantly in us that you, and not us, may be seen and that it may help dispel the darkness in others.

Did you know...

Spencer Grant is currently in his Senior year at St. John Vianney College Seminary in Miami, Florida. He was born and raised in Tampa (or as he says Champa) and has been a parishioner at St. Timothy Parish in Lutz since he was eleven years old when his family joined the Church. When not busy with studies, Spencer can often be seen on the golf course or watching the Bucs, Lightning, or Rays (you know, winning teams) as he has been since childhood. Please continue to keep him in your prayers as he continues his discernment towards priesthood.
