“To what shall I compare the Kingdom of God?” It is like yeast …
Lk 13:20-21a
As an amateur baker I remember all too well a bake for a large group, but I forgot the leavening agent. No rise, no sweetness, and starting over again and this time with the few teaspoons of the agent. In today’s Gospel (Lk 13:18-21) Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a small amount of yeast that when added increases the volume of the loaves many fold. Isn’t this how our prayer life is or can be? Prayer is the leavening agent of our day when humbly brought into our everyday situations (CCC 2660). It lifts the spirit; it changes one’s whole approach and attitude for the day.
So, bring the leavening agent – heaven – into our day, today, right now - if even a small prayer. For as St. Paul tells us in the first reading, “… hope that sees for itself is not hope … But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance.”(Romans 8:24b, 25) Prayer in the events of each day and each moment is one of the secrets of the Kingdom (CCC 2660). Let’s leaven the world with our prayers today and every day. I'm praying for you.

Lord, help me bring lightness to the world this day, for as the yeast can give rise to the loaf so prayer to you can lift our day. Amen.
