It's already given

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
I wasn't sure if I really was called to be a priest...

"The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field,* which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Matthew 13:44

I wasn't sure if I really was called to be a priest. I knew for sure that I was tired of seminary. At one moment, and a few others in my seminary years, the desire for priesthood waned. I look back on those moments now with fondness and gratitude for those who walked with me through those moments and aided me to make the decisions I did. So often the wisdom of the world would say to move on, get on to the next exciting opportunity, or do whatever will make you happy next. Yet in these moments, I wasn't encouraged to focus on what I didn't have but rather on what had already been given to me. I had been called. I had experienced that grace already and was in those moments of difficulty was being invited to receive more deeply that which had already been given to me. o Often the experience of grace in our lives fades as we move to the next obstacle or situation. Yet the grace doesn't leave us, it waits for us to remember it. It is a treasure buried in the field which we are invited to return to time and again. Occasionally we sell all that we have for the sake of that treasure. Yet when we do, the Father blesses us with abundant joy.

What is a moment that you experienced the Lord's grace in your life?

Jesus, help me to remember the moments in which you have loved me.
