"I will boast of the things that show my weakness." 2 Cor 11:30b
In his book Life of the Beloved, renowned spiritual writer Henri Nouwen speaks of two perceptions of reality. If I believe I'm living under a curse, then when bad things happen, I'll say things like, "You see, God doesn't love me. This whole thing was a mistake." I'll experience life as a burden with anxiety, worry and despair.
But if I believe the truth that by following the Lord, I live in the favor of the blessing, then when the same bad things happen, I'll consider them challenges. I'll be concerned, but open; I'll have courage and know that God is ever near. As Paul describes his weaknesses and hardships in the reading today, he's definitely embracing the truth of God's blessing even in the toughest of times!
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? No one and no thing!
