I have gone home to prepare a place for you.

By Deacon Ed Anctil
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord into Heaven...

Then he led them [out] as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. As He blessed them He parted from them and was taken up to heaven.

Luke 24:50-51

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord into Heaven. St Luke teaches us in the Acts of the Apostles that Jesus, having revealed his risen glory to his disciples after his resurrection, returned to his place with the Father in Heaven. The Lord’s Ascension into heaven is the fulfillment of his mission to achieve our salvation; we might say that he has come “full circle” in his return to the Father.  From his place at the Father’s right hand, the Lord Jesus continues his mission as our intercessor, as the one who continually pleads our cause to the Father.  Jesus’s return to heaven also stands as a sign of hope for us that where he has gone, we also may follow. What a great promise Christ has given us that we who believe will be take taken home to be in His presence and to glorify the Father forever. What a great gift that we have awaiting us.

What are you doing here on earth to secure your place in the heavenly kingdom, to be home with Jesus forever?

Lord Jesus, we place our hope in you that we will be with your forever. Amen.
