I Knew You Would Become A Great Person

By Caleb Malec
In today's Gospel we read that Jesus exemplified great "wisdom and mighty deeds" in His hometown of Nazareth...

"Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Matthew 13:54

In today's Gospel, we read that Jesus exemplified great "wisdom and mighty deeds" in His hometown of Nazareth. Such impressive actions caused those who knew Jesus as a boy and young man to become jealous of how far He has come. They knew the poor Holy Family but seemed to be in disbelief that Jesus would amount to anything more than His father, a carpenter. We cannot judge the growth or success of a person simply by their upbringing or family connections. Think about the many professional athletes that were not good enough for high school varsity. Both Micheal Jordan and Carmelo Anthony were cut and played JV basketball.       As the control of COVID improves, many restrictions are being lifted allowing for more visiting and interacting with one another. In these long-desired reunions, we have two options; we can be refreshed and encouraged or jealous and resentful of the progress made within the lives of the others. Let us choose to find Christ in each person, especially family and friends, who we have not seen in a while.

As you begin to see more familiar faces, do you find yourself becoming joyful and resentful at the newness of each person?

Heavenly Father, please grant me the grace to encounter You within every person I am reunited with!
