Hungry for Heaven

By John Morris
Just give me a little peek and that will be....

John 14:8

Philip said to him, "Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."

Jesus talks about going to the Father and preparing a place for them.  Then Phillip gives a simple, direct request to Jesus, "Show us the Father and that will be enough for us."  Philip just wants a little taste of heaven.   We all do.   We try to imagine in our humanness what heaven will be like, what life will be like with God.  Jesus lived with the disciples, performed miracles, did great works and yet they still wanted more proof.  This is also the desire of many people today: What do people do to see the Father of whom Jesus speaks so much? Jesus, almost exasperated says, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me! Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father!" People should not think that God is far away from us, distant and unknown. Anyone who wants to know how and who God the Father is, it suffices that he looks at Jesus. We take our petitions and requests straight to Christ who is our advocate for the Father.  He has revealed him in his words and gestures of his life! "I am in the Father and the Father is in me!" Through his obedience, Jesus identified himself totally with the Father. At every moment he did what the Father asked him to do. That is why, in Jesus, everything is revelation of the Father.  The signs, works, and miracles are the works of the Father.  This is why we do things in the name of the Father.  All of our good works should be for His honor and glory.
