So from that day on they planned to kill him
John 11:53
What must Jesus have felt knowing that his death had been plotted? He’s come to the end of his three-year ministry, he’s a popular and well-known in the surrounding regions of Judea, but still faced powerful opposition that would ultimately put him to death. Yet, Jesus keeps going, knowing full well that his journey up to Jerusalem will be his last, he goes anyways. Knowing that the type of death he will experience will be excruciating and drawn out, he continues. Why? Because He loves each and every one of us so much that he desired to be put to death for our sake. As this season of Lent comes to a close, and as we get closer to Easter, let’s take some time to be thankful for the gift that Jesus gave us, the gift of himself, so that we could spend everlasting life with him in heaven.
How can we express our gratitude to Jesus today?
Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your Son to die for us so that we might be able to spend eternity with you. Give us the grace to be thankful for this gift.
